Nelson Peterson, Adrian Peterson's father, appears on today's edition of NFL Fathers Who Feel the Need to Speak Up. Adrian Peterson signed with the Seattle Seahawks' practise squad this week, giving him a new home. It occurred the same week that his former club, the Minnesota Vikings, was struggling with their own running back problems.
After an MRI showed a ruptured labrum in star running back Dalvin Cook's shoulder on Monday, it is expected that he will be out for at least a couple of weeks. Kerryon "My Wayward" Johnson, an ex-Detroit Lions running back, was chosen by the Vikings. This did not sit well with Peterson's father, according to Chris Thomasson of the Pioneer Press.

Nelson criticised the apparent snub from his previous team, saying, "That's disheartening to me... Adrian never heard from the Vikings, and you bring in a player Adrian beat out in Detroit."
I'm sorry to break it to you, unhappy parent, but he did not beat him out. A pass-catching back is crucial, as shown by almost every team in the contemporary NFL, and Johnson kept his place on that squad to complement Adrian's most visible flaw – his abysmal pass blocking.

With Alexander Mattison firmly planted as a solid between-the-tackles back, it makes perfect sense for the Vikings to turn to a good pass-catcher like Johnson as a temporary third-string back. Plus, Johnson wasn't just released by the Tennessee Titans a week ago after being absolutely washed up in a miserable two-week stint standing in for another excellent running back.
Adrian Peterson will have his opportunity to prove his father wrong this week against the San Francisco 49ers, but I'll gladly take Kerryon Johnson to replace Mattison on a few third downs and force his old colleagues to fail on some third-and-short dump-offs from Cousins to move the chains. Skol.
