Microsoft surprised Xbox enthusiasts today by releasing Halo Infinite multiplayer early. Over the weekend, rumours of an early Halo Infinite multiplayer release surfaced, and Microsoft is officially confirming it as part of the Xbox's 20th anniversary celebrations.

Everyone on Xbox One, Xbox Series S / X, and PC should be able to test out Halo Infinite's cross-platform multiplayer mode in beta today. Season one is included in the beta, along with all of the basic maps and battle pass features. Any progress made in the multiplayer mode will be carried over until the December 8th launch date.
There were some troubles downloading it via Xbox or the Windows Store at first – the free-to-play game only appeared as part of a premium Xbox Game Pass membership at initially, and some gamers had trouble starting it. Microsoft advised gamers to restart their consoles, while Halo community director Brian Jarrard stated that some players were having problems with the launch because "the build is still publishing and spreading out."

However, the game is currently operating on Xbox, and we had no trouble starting matches on PC via Steam right away. They took a little longer to load than you'd anticipate, lingering on the setup screens. It's a 25GB download on Xbox, and a 23.7GB download on Steam expands to 26GB once loaded.
Halo Infinite's creators, 343 Industries, initially started showing off the game's multiplayer feature in July. All Xbox users were given access to a multiplayer preview of Halo Infinite in late September. We couldn't get enough of Halo Infinite's multiplayer feature, and it felt like a welcome return to form. However, if you played the beta on PC, any controls you adjusted will need to be rebinded. The new version seems to use a different client than the previous test flights.
The first Xbox, along with Halo: Combat Evolved, was released 20 years ago on November 15th. During a special anniversary live commemorating Halo Infinite's 20th anniversary, Microsoft confirmed the game's early multiplayer release.
After more than 81 million copies of Halo games have been sold globally, it's no surprise that the Xbox event today focused primarily on Halo. It's a popular franchise, with Halo: The Master Chief Collection attracting over 3 million gamers within its first week on PC and Xbox One.
