Dean Stockwell, whose cinematic credits include "Married to the Mob," "Blue Velvet," and "Paris, Texas," has died. He was 85 years old. The actor died quietly in his sleep on November 7, according to media sources.
Stockwell was arguably best known for co-starring in the TV series "Quantum Leap" with Scott Bakula, winning five Emmy nods and a Golden Globe award for his role as Admiral Al Calavicci in the sci-fi series. Fans of science fiction may also remember him as Brother Cavil in the 2004 TV series reboot of "Battlestar Galactica."

Stockwell, who was born in West Hollywood in 1936, had a career that lasted more than seven decades. Early film credits include "Anchors Aweigh," in which he co-starred with Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly. He also appeared in the divisive anti-war film "The Boy With Green Hair" in 1948. Other films in which he has appeared include "To Live and Die in L.A.," "The Rainmaker," "The Player," and the 1984 remake of "Dune."
According to Deadline.com, Stockwell left acting in 2015 to pursue a career in painting, showing under his full name, Robert Dean Stockwell.
Stockwell's wife, Joy, and two children survive him.
